Job Description

A Permit Authorizing Individual (PAI) inspects locations on board vessels primarily for hot work operations and certifies those locations safe for hot work prior to the start of hot work. The PAI performs safety inspections of vessels and hot work locations throughout the day to ensure compliance with housekeeping and fire prevention requirements and work with the Safety Department by assisting with inspecting various work areas, ensuring compliance with safety/health regulation, company policies, procedures and customer requirements. Areas of concern include but are not limited to: Life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, fall protection, fire protection, confined and enclosed space entry, hazardous communication standards, electrical safety, lock-out tag-out, etc.


Candidate Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and retain DBIDs card.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to board all ships and enter all spaces regardless of size to complete inspections and ensure compliance of safety rules
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must have knowledge of NAVSEA regulations regarding hot work.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of people in a variety of settings.
  • Previous experience in the field of Safety or related field.
  • Must have One (1) year of experience as a PAI or two (2) years in other positions that require knowledge of hot work procedures and regulations.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must have OSHA 10 and fire watch certifications
  • Must pass 10 year background check
  • Must pass drug screen
